Popularizing activity
The Circle of Experimental Primeval Archeology (CEPA) is also involved in popularizing archeology among a wider audience, people who are not involved in archaeology in any sense. This activity takes place at numerous festivals, during which CEPA brings closer its area of research to the participants and presents the results of the past activity. Thus, such archeological workshops have an educational character. Recipients taking part, literally of every age, have the opportunity to obtain answers to intriguing questions concerning primeval and experimental archeology. Volunteers try their hand at bolding vessels from clay, or painting leather with natural dyes. Techniques are presented which are employed in production of flint, stone and bone tools. Held are demonstrations of making bone and amber ornaments. For those who wish to play the role of a hunter dressed in a primeval outfit bows are waiting. Gathered in the glow of fires have an opportunity to unusual dishes prepared in the primeval manner. In the course of such numerous events we have visited a number of small towns and schools across the country (Zalesie, Łasin, Słup, Świecie by Osa River, Grudziądz, Linowo, Skrzypkowo, Zieleń, Ludowice), Chodlik and Warsaw, where during the 9th Scientific Picnic of the Polish Radio Bis the Circle took the 2nd place presenting its past achievements to guests from all over the country. A CEPA’s tradition became also the participation in the Torun Festival of Science and Culture. We are also present during the University’s open days, encouraging young people to studying archeology. We participate also in the celebrations of the Days of the Faculty of History.
The popularization activity of CEPA has been recognized by many magazines, among others „Archeologia Żywa”, „National Geographic”, „Głos Uczelni”, as well as many times in the local press.
